Centers of Excellence promote the use of upcoming exascale and extreme performance computing capabilities and scale up existing parallel codes towards exascale scaling performance. The Centres of Excellence cover tools and optimize HPC applications along multiple areas of knowledge. Furthermore, they address the skills gap in computational science in the targeted domains by specialized trainings for increased adoption of advanced HPC in industry and academia.

Main objectives:

Following session aims to bring together the Centers of Excellence in Medical / Bio / Pharma sectors and selected industrial partners to discuss about industrial challenges in the sector, how the Centers of Excellence can help to tackle them, opportunities are emerging from them. It is a good opportunity to get a common understanding of the ongoing activities within the different CoEs and foster collaboration opportunities.

Target Audience

We expect to bring together the computing systems specialists from the HiPEAC community, with the CoE partners application specialists and industrial contacts in the medical / Bio / Pharma vertical and hence potential end users of the centers of excellence.

Bioexcel: The Centre of Excellence for Computational Biomolecular Research (Bioexcel) is operating towards advancement and support of the HPC software ecosystem in the life science domain.

PerMedCoE is the HPC/Exascale Centre of Excellence for Personalised Medicine in Europe and aims to provide an efficient and sustainable entry point to the HPC/Exascale-upgraded methodology to translate omics information into actionable models of cellular functions of medical relevance.

CompBioMed is a user-driven Centre of Excellence in Computational Biomedicine, to nurture and promote the uptake and exploitation of high performance computing within the biomedical modelling community.

FocusCoe: is the concerted action for the European HPC CoEs bringing together the “ecosystem” of Centres of Excellence helping them to more effectively fulfil their role, which is to ensure that extreme scale applications result in tangible benefits for addressing scientific, industrial or societal challenges.
